The 57th edition represents the second major change in cover design. The front now includes 'Bubbles', and the spine includes the edition number. However, this new style only lasted for 5 years, with the current 'blank red' front cover adopted from the 62nd edition onwards.

The 57th edition is also the last that was 'not published annually, but as demand requires'. The 58th edition (Autumn 1948) notes that 'This book is published annually'.
